The owner Barry has a nice sense of humor. His breakfasts are to die for. The room was comfortable and well kept. A plus is that he gave a nice supply of bottled water. The prices for the room are more than reasonable.

This is the place to go for a B&B.

My sister in law, Marisa, stayed here spur of the moment and discovered a true gem in Hudson City B&B. She doesn't write reviews and I said I would submit one since she was so enthusiastic about her wonderful experience. Barry was great. His waffles and coffee are to die for. Very helpful and friendly man. Felt safe as a woman traveling alone and can't wait to return for the charm of the place and further exploring Hudson.

The only place to stay in Hudson! Planned a last-minute trip for the weekend and could not find any other place; however, it was meant to be. There is absolutely no other place with better value. As seen in all other reviews, Barry could not be a better host. He gave us detailed recommendations on everything we asked for, and even called a bar, Helsinki, to check if there were any tables left as this place has minimal standing room (only he knew this as he is the expert on everything in town). Then, again we booked last-minute train tickets back home and gave him just 20 minutes notice. Barry insisted on making us breakfast-to-go and driving us to the train station there even though we had time to walk. In just 5 minutes, Barry made us the most savory yet simple sandwich (which was the topic of conversation for part of the train ride back.)

His breakfast was the best meal we had during our entire weekend in Hudson - 100% fact. Eating breakfast outside on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. Location is walking distance from the best shopping and food in Hudson, as well as Amtrak.

If anyone else is looking, this is the only place I'd recommend.

10 Stars! This is my fiance's and my second stay at this extraordinary Bed & Breakfast... AND it will not be our last!

Having stayed in several other Bed and Breakfasts in Hudson before finding Hudson City B & B I cant recommend this place highly enough.

The classic bed and breakfast experience where the inn keeper is as charming as the home. And that certainly is saying something as the home is beautiful, a traditional Victorian with all the small details we love, a lovely ornate wooden mantle, and full of classic antiques that were clearly collected over a lifetime. Dont think the breakfast was overlooked either, with delicious waffles served with a side of poached eggs and sausage. Situated perfectly, it is just an 8 minute walk from Hudsons downtown. I would definently stay again.

I'm thrilled to write this review for Barry's B&B, which in my honest opinion is the best place to stay at if you're in Hudson. My boyfriend booked this trip so I really had no idea what to expect coming in, I certainly did not expect the:

    1. Delicious french toast / waffles / eggs / homemade apricot/ peach compote that Barry cooked for breakfast

    2. Our beautiful large Medieval-inspired room with HIGH ceilings (we stayed in the master suite, which had a four-poster, tub w/ bubble bath soap, and Apple TV!)

    3. And last but not least, our conversations with Barry. Even though we're college students, we really had some great philosophical conversations and became fast friends over our stay.

We even had a pretty rough start -- we arrived at like 10:30 or 11pm that night at a bus station four miles away rather than taking the Amtrak up from NYC, and Barry had to pick us up...

So for future visitors from NYC without a car, tip: please take the Amtrak rather than the bus, as the view is better and you won't have to worry about transportation to Barry's B&B. Haha.

Overall, my expectations were really exceeded coming here and I was struck not only by the room and the tasty breakfast, but also by Barry's hospitality and kindness. In fact, I felt like I really made some great friends at Hudson and I would highly recommend coming here!

Saw the amazing reviews and knew that I had to give this place a try. I called for a same night reservation last minute and luckily Barry had availability. He was a wonderful host.

The house is historic and has tons of charm and character. The real highlight was Barry. He's accommodating and friendly.

I stayed in the queen room for one night and definitely recommend. If you like TV entertainment there was Netflix.

The Bed was comfy with Private bathroom attached. A nice selection of tea was available which helped wake me up in the morning

We stayed here for one night over a weekend in June and had a wonderful time. The bed and breakfast is a great location just a few blocks from all the shops and restaurants in Hudson. It was great to leave our car parked there and be able to walk anywhere we wanted to go. We stayed in room number 2 and it was very comfortable and roomy. Barry is an interesting man who makes quite the delicious breakfast!

We went to Hudson for our 1st wedding anniversary. We are so happy that we stayed at Hudson City Bed and Breakfast. Barry was a very gracious host, and the room was cozy, comfortable and full of the personal touches that make Bed and Breakfasts so enjoyable. The breakfasts were fantastic, and the waffles are an absolute must. It was very nice having breakfast with Barry and the other guests. We would absolutely stay here again next time we are in the area.

We stayed at the Hudson City Bed and Breakfast for 3 nights and were very happy that we chose it. Everything was fine and Barry's suggestions on restaurants, places to visit in the area, etc. were very helpful. Barry is an excellent cook and our breakfasts were delicious!

Wonderful stay!!! Fabulous old house, well located, light-filled comfortable rooms and a perfect host. This was our first, but absolutely not the last, time we stayed here. Could not find a negative even if I tried. We are so looking forward to coming back soon.

Barry's place is clean, comfortable, quiet, and just a 10 minute walk from the train station. We stayed in Room #2, and it was better than the old pictures on the website show. The room now has a large flat screen TV with streaming video (Netflix, etc) and basic cable. The bed was super comfy. The shower in the room was exceptional (water pressure and temperature). My girlfriend and enjoyed a relaxing weekend at Hudson City Bed & Breakfast and look forward to going back soon. Thank you, Barry!

Also, those breakfasts Barry makes really are the best.

This was our first visit to Hudson and to Barry's beautiful bed and breakfast! He welcomed us immediately, offering us water and showing us to out light-filled room. After exploring antique shops and the friendly neighborhood of Hudson, we went back and had an excellent night of sleep. Barry cooked the most incredible breakfast of citrus-infused waffles, homemade apricot compote, sausage and eggs. My partner and I could tell he took time to not only cook, but conceive the breakfast. It was truly delicious. And his coffee! Excellent! If we could give Hudson City Bed and Breakfast 10 stars, we would. He welcomed our dog, Frangie too. There is no better place to stay than Barry's!

Hudson City B&B is located in the best spot possible! it's walking distance from Warren Street (all the antique shops and restaurants/bars) and there is plenty of street parking (just need to be aware of alternate side parking rules!). Train station is less than 5 minutes away, too.

Tip: Make sure you call Barry if you plan on arriving sooner/later than your scheduled time.

Hudson City B&B has so much charm! Upon entering you will see a cozy living room and dining room table that seats 6. Barry was nice enough to upgrade us to a bigger bedroom on the third floor. He even asked if I needed help bringing in my bags (how nice!). All the rooms are beautiful and are decorated so wonderfully with the cozy-antique B&B feel.

The bedroom we were in had a king size bed and it was extremely comfortable. Had a small tub and large bathroom area. Barry provides wifi, q-tips, a blowdryer (every girl's question when traveling "do you think they'll have a blowdryer?"), shampoo/conditioner, body wash, towels, and a fridge in the room.

He also makes THE best breakfast! We had omelettes and toast from the local bakery one morning and waffles with a poached egg the next morning. I'm curious as to what other breakfasts he makes if people stay for over 3 days...

I feel like the kitchen area could be less cluttered. Perhaps set the coffee pot and tea pot somewhere more accessible for the guests so they aren't awkwardly going in and out of the small space but it doesn't affect my 5 star rating. Met some awesome fellow guests, too! This is the longest running B&B place in Hudson and understandably so!!!

I don't travel to New York state often, but if I have reason to go to Hudson again I will book this bed and Breakfast. for the friendly atmosphere, but most importantly, for the Breakfast! way better than 5 stars!

Thank you Barry for a wonderful experience staying there ! Gus & I loved the room we stayed in, it was very cozy ! Not to mention how welcome you made us feel, even Skye (my puppy) felt right at home ! The best part of our stay were those wonderfully delicious waffles you made each morning for us ! Visiting Hudson was awesome, the waterfront park, the restaurants, even the people were super friendly ! We'll definitely be coming back !

My family of five stayed here last week. We loved it. Barry cooks an amazing breakfast, knows the region like the back of his hand, and is just an all-around nice guy. He really makes you feel at home. Can't recommend HCBB enough!

Barry was a very kind and accommodating host. He also is an excellent chef as he cooked us 3 fantastic breakfasts. Couldn't decide which was our favorite dish. Waffles with blueberries, spinach and tomato omelette, or French toast with apricots. All were delicious. We were in Hudson for a wedding and Barry welcomed all 8 of us along with all our visitors into his home. He even accommodated the new 10 month baby and her needs. The rooms have window air conditioners and we stayed cool on a hot weekend. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and bathrooms provided all the necessities. It isn't a luxury resort but a welcoming home. Thank you for a lovely stay and unlimited supply of bottled water.

Very much enjoyed our time in Hudson and Barry was a most wonderful host. He cooked us a delicious breakfast.
The home was very charming and the beds were quite comfortable. Each bedroom room was chock-full of amenities and had its own full size bathroom.
Would very much recommend and only wish we had more time to spend there.

As thick skinned as I've always considered myself to be, NYC really eats at me.

This happens to me every so often and everyone who knows me, knows where Gillys vacation spot is; the wilderness, the ruggedness that is the outback, the cliff faces, the mountaintops - these are the reasons up north is where I make my way when looking to get zen.

Nah, I don't need the fancy beaches and the margaritas - give me the shy deer and little black bear cubs chasing after mum. The streams, the picturesque rivers & falls... This all makes it clear (to me at least) where it is we really belong.

I think being blasted in the face by passing New York City buses exhausts one time too many has drilled this point home for this here Brooklynite.

I made my way first to say hi to friends over at Woodstock.

There, an artist friend of mine (taking into consideration unrelated information I've shared w/him) mentioned I should make my way to an area called Hudson, mentioned it was hip, up and coming, and what-not.

So I did, and it was true, this area is pretty doap.

I stayed here because the gentleman was super friendly before deciding to book, and remained so the entire stay - very helpful actually regarding certain "live" local spots.

    I love it up here!

We stayed at Hudson City Bed and Breakfast for two wonderful nights. Our experience was exceptional. Not only is the house incredibly charming and decorated beautifully, but our host Barry was a pleasure. He was very accommodating, made a delicious breakfast, and had many helpful suggestions for hikes and places to visit in town. We could have sat on the patio with a cup of coffee for hours. We'll be sure to be back!

In town not for vacation but rather to tend to some family business, I needed a place to stay in Hudson for a few days that was comfortable, had air conditioning and WiFi, and was reasonably priced -- and I luckily stumbled upon this B&B run by the friendly proprietor, Barry. I couldn't have been happier, and the other guests I met staying there seem like they would certainly agree.

Fyi, the breakfast here is top-notch. Barry goes all-out with generous, tasty and cooked-to-order meals. He does *not* simply plop a bowl of scrambled eggs made at 8am on the table beside a bowl of apples and a jar of Fruit Loops and call it breakfast. This is a fulfilling breakfast that one would expect in a high-end resort. Was totally unexpected, and quite the bonus.

This establishment is one of a kind. The staff and innkeeper made our trip so special. We were personally escorted to the hotel from a fantastic cafe, OR. The signature French toast is a must. We will most definitely visit Mr. Butterfield soon!

    Loved it
Barry's breakfast was incredible both days we were here
nice walk from the train station, a few blocks from the main drag
very accommodating, let us leave our bags after checking out and let us keep a key so we could spend our last day in town and pick up bags when heading to the train

This was our second stay at HCBB, and we couldn't be happier. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the location, just a short walk from Warren St, was perfect for us. He even gave us a great recommendation for where to have dinner. Barry couldn't have been more gracious, and his waffles are, quite simply, the best. If you are looking for the B&B experience, look no further!

we were warmly greeted by the owner, who shared his opinion of the town. room was clean comfortable, breakfast was great. we enjoyed our stay new years weekend was made better

I've stayed at this B&B for a weekend in August. The house is very cute as it's a Victorian mansion. The house itself and the street it is on are quiet. I've stayed in the top floor room and the room was spacious, clean, and quiet, but the walls could use a coat of paint. The interior of the house is kind of clattered but interesting as it contains Victorian elements and many knickknacks. The host, Barry, is a bit eccentric, but nice and friendly. The breakfast choices were waffles or a french toast with a poached egg. I don't like to eat sweet stuff for breakfast, but many people liked it. The house is located only a few minutes away from the main shopping street and an Amtrak train station. Overall, i enjoyed my stay there and recommend it. --

AWESOME! Great place...clean and lots of character...(Barry and the place). Breakfast was fantastic and rates were fair. Highly recommend.

One of the best experiences ever!. Barry was friendly and made me feel like home. I woke up early and in order not to disturb my room-mates, I headed down to the living room. He chatted with me for an hour and before making the breakfast. The waffles are amazing! he insists on calling them: "Butterfield waffle shack".

I picked this place for a 4th of July weekend getaway and couldn't be happier with the decision.

The location. When you are in the Hudson Valley, you're going to want a nice proximity to some of the attractions the greater region has to offer, but you'll also want to be near the local charms of the town you're in. HCB&B offers both, being just a short walk away from Warren Street, Hudson's main drag.

The host. Barry greeted us warmly and congratulated us on our impending stay in the Grand Deluxe Room. (Truly an honor.) He was happy to advise us on where to go and what to see in the area and followed his suggestion to go kayaking in Catskill, which ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.

The breakfast. Barry makes breakfast for his guests each morning and not only supplies some great coffee but makes a helluva plate of french toast and THE BEST spinach omelet I've ever had. (Yes, I said "the best", Barry.)

Overall, HC B&B was an amazing place and an amazing value. I'd go back again in a heartbeat.

If what you are looking for is a B&B that offers clean rooms, comfortable beds, a delicious breakfast, and a kind and caring host, this is the place for you. It is located on a quiet street within walking distance of the shopping area of Hudson. I highly recommend Hudson City B&B.

The Hudson City B&B was the perfect place for us and our friends to stay. Barry was more than accommodating, meeting us upon arrival after a long day of snowboarding at Hunter Mountain.

The rooms were clean and inviting, with nice hot showers, shampoo, conditioner and bronners soap (which we use at home too)... Each room had a small tv with vhs, and were decorated with antiques and gorgeous odds and ends.

Barry recommended a local bar names Or, which was super awesome, and gave the thumbs up on Swoon for dinner.

He made us a fantastic breakfast - a veggie omelet with bagel and oranges. Healthy, hearty and really good.

We'd definitely stay with Barry again, no question!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night during the week as a quick getaway and it was superb. Barry is extremely nice and gave us great suggestions for where to eat and then what sorts of trips we could take in the area with our remaining time before we left. He makes an amazing breakfast too! The room was beautiful, comfortable and spacious and has everything you need. The inn is just a quick walk to Warren Street, the main street, so it's very centrally-located, but still a quiet/peaceful/charming street. I would definitely recommend this place highly and you'll find a great and caring host in Barry!

My girlfriend and I had a simply wonderful 2 nights here. The room (at the top of the house) was warm (on a cold night) and bright, with a 4-poster bed in the middle. It was really a suite, with a separate bathroom, shower, and parlor. The morning light is beautiful at this time of year (November). The landlord, Barry, accommodated us with an early breakfast, as we had to leave at 8:30 am on Saturday to get back to NYC for a class. He was helpful and friendly. We are planning on going back there -- soon. Also, you can get a train from NYC and it's really close to the station, also to Warren Street, with all the antiques, the Hudson Theatre, and lots of GOOD restaurants. Enjoy...

Hudson City B&B is a charming place with just enough quirk to make it stand out.

The house itself is a beautiful Victorian that has been kept up quite well.  The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable.

Barry was a delight.  He cooked us the most delicious breakfast and kept the coffee coming.  We stayed and lost track of time talking to him about interesting odds and ends such as his love for Bee's!

Great place to stay.  Located on a quiet street just a few blocks away from Warren where all the stores and restaurants are located, also a short walk to the train station.

Oscar and I had such a lovely stay at Hudson City B & B. We LOVED Barry. He took our photo with our little Monkey Pepe pinterest.com/poozypie/p… as soon as we arrived so we knew he was "one of us".
Our bed was so comfortable and our room was beautiful, as was the whole house, but there was no door to the bathroom so don't go as a "first weekend away together".
We had a really great weekend in Hudson and then Barry had breakfast with us and chatted in the morning and didn't rush us out. We promised to bring him some prune danishes from Brooklyn the next time we come up to visit.
We haven't had a breakfast as delicious as the one Barry made for us in the morning (scrambled eggs with Kale, green Tomatoes, corn and garlic) In AGES and we live on "Restaurant Row" in Brooklyn.
We also called 5 Bed and Breakfasts on our way up and Hudson City was the least expensive, which is why we initially chose it but next time will chose it for Barry and his fantastic breakfasts!

Staying at Barry's B&B is like  visiting with a favorite  relative... Someone who tends to your comfort with an ease that immediately makes you feel as comfortable as you are welcome. His breakfasts are delicious, his rooms clean and reminiscent of an earlier time and place.... all of which adds to the charm of this very special bed and breakfast.

This was a dream vacation for  us. Barry is witty and wise, plays great jazz, is curious  about his guests and is very welcoming , relaxed  and genuine. And he makes a beautiful breakfast. The place is immaculate; everything works The rooms are spacious and lovely. . Hudson City seems like a step back in time when civil discourse, contemplation and a sense of community existed. The town has preserved its past; it has arresting architecture, a funky record store, a great book store/ale house with concerts, good restaurants.

Love this place, me and my mum came here on Dec 23th and stayed 1 night till Christmas Eve, the room was really warm and cute, Barry and his girlfriend are very friendly, he makes delicious waffles and was willing to pick us up from the train station and helped us to call for taxi, we had a wonderful experience at his place!

My wife and I recently traveled to Hudson for a relaxing getaway.  We couldn't have been more pleased with the kindness and hospitality that Barry showed us at his B&B.  When we arrived, he welcomed us with warm tea and cookies after a long drive.  Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and uniquely furnished.  The house itself was large and wrought with interesting historical architectural features.  What really made our stay special was Barry's personal touch and hospitality.  He served a delicious breakfast each morning (the waffles are not to be missed), and engaged us with friendly conversation.  He answered our questions about the towns various activities and went out of his way to make sure that we enjoyed our time in the Hudson river valley.  Overall, I can't recommend Hudson City Bed & Breakfast enough! Thanks Barry!

Hello Delightful, friendly and very comfortable. Tasty too. Would recommend and return.

  • *****

this is not a high-end b&b, but for what it is, it was very nice. clean bedroom, very comfortable bed, excellent buttermilk waffles in the morning. good location, close to warrent st, but far enough off such that it was quite.

We spent 2 nights at Hudson City B&B. It was comfortable and quiet. The deluxe king room is worth the 2 flights up. It is spacious and sunny with a roomy bath area and a super comfortable bed.  The B&B is conveniently located near the heart of town, in a quiet neighborhood. Barry, the owner, was welcoming and makes delicious waffles! We would definitely stay here again. We met interesting people and there was a good vibe!
